Drama

Small screens, large consequences

Drama is the category where the format earns itself. A message sent to the wrong thread, a screenshot forwarded, a name that appears in a group chat it should not be in; these are plot devices that only exist because the story is told in messages, and they land harder than any amount of description could.

The stories here tend to be about people managing information: who knows what, who has been told, who is about to find out. Chapters are often built around a single reveal, which makes them quick to read and difficult to stop reading. Several of the longest-running threads in the archive live in this category, because a secret can sustain a serial in a way a single encounter cannot.

Expect messier endings than in romance. Drama stories are more likely to stop somewhere uncomfortable than to resolve, which some readers love and others find frustrating; the ratings are a reasonable guide to which camp a given story falls into.
